As per our chat tonight, I experimented with the settings...
I changed the forum permissions so now anyone can read the Forum headings, however only registered users can read the posts.
I can also change it so anyone can read the posts, but only registered users can add posts.
I can make all these changes on a forum by forum basis. So I can make certain forums hidden to non registered users, such as Idea Parking Lot.
Plus I created a Guest Book that anyone can use to drop by and post something.
Forum guests
Sounds good to me. I say leave it like this for a while, and lets see if A) anyone objects, and B) If any nonSFWWmembers visit.
Once our website is fully functional, we can rehash this debate somemore is we even need to.

Do you know when non-members visit?
Nonmembers visits
Good point, Joe.
I don't think we really can know unless someone signs the guest book. But if someone does, we can assume more people show up than sign the book.

Re:Changed Forum permissions
I can probably guess that non-SFWW members are looking at the page if we have substantially increased page view counts in the web stats.
I agree with camidon, leave the forum the way you have it for now. Let's see what develops with time.
