Re:A few good websites
http://www.gyre.org
good site which follows current developments in several fields of research, from Artificial Intelligence to Virtual Reality. The site basically pulls stories from places like Discover, Wired and The New Scientist, but it is a good central place to start researching anything science-fiction oriented, if you want to make it a bit more factual.
http://www.howstuffworks.com
again, good for general research. i've gone to this site trying to find something in particular and just spent hours browsing and learning.
Web Sites
Here are some web sites I've found.
http://www.hatrack.com/index.shtml
Orson Scott Card's web site. There are chats and forums and some class notes.
http://www.scifiscripts.com/default.html
If you're into screenwriting this must have a hundred scripts for SF movies.
http://www.larryniven.org/
And the page for Larry Niven, one of my favorite authors.
Consolidate
We need to get a place where all these useful websites are stored, with some kind of short and sweet explanation for what they do.
I.E. Have a new and eXpanded page on our website. This is good stuff. This is what this group is about, sharing our knowledge and experience and creativity to better everyone involved.
We need to compile all this info in a central and easily accessible place.
That's what I think about all these websites.

I agree. As I was looking over the SFWW website, there are actually pages for this stuff, which could potentially be expanded to more pages, as appropriate.

Re:A few good websites
Regarding the cliches: that doesn't leave us with much...
I'm not a complete idiot -- some parts are missing.
Re:A few good websites
I found this on OSC's web site. It may be a bit old, sorry I didn't check the links.

Here are some links that aspiring authors may find especially useful when soliciting for an agent/ publisher -
PREEDITORS AND EDITORS -
A large and good reference point. Especially useful for researching potential agents to see whether they have been blacklisted or not. However, the list appears not to be updated, and is not exhaustive:
http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/
ADVICE FROM PUBLISHED AUTHORS -
Mostly short excerpts, but some good comments in there. Especially check out comments from Anita Shreve and Jeffry Deaver:

ARTICLES AND AGENT/ EDITOR INTERVIEWS -
Informative set of articles from Fiction Factor, with agents especially having their brains picked. Highly recommend you visit here if you're looking to publish.

THE AGENT SITUATION -
Probably the best article I've found on the web regarding submitting to agents:
http://www.sandiego-online.com/entertainment/sdwm/sept99/nonfiction.stm
US AGENTS - RESOURCE
This has to be one of the best goldmine's I've found online for soliciting to US agents. The above link was from here, but there are a number of others worth checking out.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Latest news from the publishing world - often recommended, though I've not found myself able to subscribe. Maybe something to visit regurlarly, especially while soliciting:
